16 June 2021 – Hourly weather radar accumulations

Estimated hourly accumulations from weather radar

Quite an eventful evening across the southeast with more storms to follow later in the night. In contrast there’s a lovely rosy red sunset up here in Easter Ross the best for a long while. I thought I’d see what my new hourly enhancements to my old Web Radar application looked like. Not bad, but I’ll have to revisit that colour scale. The maximum hourly intensities look to be as high as 20-25 mm per hour. I heard Ben Rich on the BBC Weather earlier say because of the nature of these thunderstorms some places will get a deluge and others will stay dry – I don’t think so – especially not over Kent and Sussex. I’ll update this animation if there’s more thunderstorms in the night.
