2019 – warmest year on record in Europe, but not the UK or the world.

I don’t usually make a habit of defacing articles by the BBC about AGW, but I think a bit of the Piers Morgan technique of interviewing politicians has started to rub off on me recently, and I thought that I would do it anyway, after all we are here only the once. There’s no doubt that we are in the midst of a spell of global warming at the moment, you don’t need to be a scientist to recognise that, but let’s keep it factual, and a few less of the words warmer, hotter or hit might be in order too, it becomes very preachy almost to the point of brainwashing even if yesterday was world Earth day.

Matt of course neglected to mention the fact that 2019 had been only the third warmest year globally behind both 2015 and 2016, or indeed that it was only the eleventh warmest year in the UK were records started in 1884. The warmest year in the UK was in fact 2014 with a mean temperature of 9.89°C and 1.0°C above the 1981-2010 LTA which surprised even me!
