25 August 2020 – 11 UTC winds

11 UTC 25 August 2020

The strongest winds at 11 UTC this morning were around coastal regions as would be expected (~61 mph). A couple of the usual culprits are at the top of the table of highest gust table (Aberdaron and the Mumbles). The gradient must tighten from mid afternoon as storm Francis tracks eastward across the north of England, and hence the issuing of an amber warning. I don’t know why the UKMO couldn’t have been anticipated yesterday, the NWP models have been very consistent with how they have handled this low, call me cynical if you like but I get the distinct impression that the whole two part warning thing is a bit of a put up job with the Press team to wring/exploit every last bit of newsworthiness out of the storm Francis as possible.
