27-28 Mar 2021 – Accumulated precipitation

Estimated Accumulations from weather radar

The deep purple pixels indicate that there has been as much as 70 mm of rainfall (estimated) in the last 24 hours across the higher ground of northwest Ireland, western Scotland, Snowdonia, and a quite a large part of northwest England (Shap 54.6 mm). I have seen yellow warnings issued for less severe heavy rain events in the past but there was no warning out for this one/ I’m sure it was all down to the impacts. Unfortunately the SYNOP network has few AWS gauges which cover these areas relying on the EA or SEPA to fill in the gaps here is a list courtesy of OGIMET in Barcelona for the ones we are privy to which show my estimates weren’t far off the mark.
