5 January 2021 – anomalies and windchill

Another very cold day across the Highlands despite the sunshine, and surprisingly it was even colder than yesterday, with 12 UTC anomalies in the range 4 to 8°C below the LTA for that time of day. It has all the ingredients for a record cold night tonight up here though, light winds, clear skies and a snow surface. Loch Glascarnoch with the better snow cover might just edge Altnaharra of the coldest spot now that we’ve hopefully seen the back of that pesky SC. Wind chill at 15 UTC today were typically one degree either side of freezing across IONA, but the wind and temperatures combined produced a particularly raw afternoon across Devon.
