The severe gales across northern Scotland on the 9th of January 2015

Conifers flattened by the gale

Wind damage just to the north of Strathpeffer from the severe gale on the 9th of January 2015. I would have liked to include more aerial images but Google maps have recently updated a lot of the tiles in this area, so much of the area covered by trees that had been blown down in the gale have now been cleared.
In the latest Google map view of part of the Cat’s back above the village, only a small patch of trees flattened by the gale remain, the rest having been cleared.

I couldn’t find very much about the damage caused by the unknown storm either in the Weather magazine or the wider internet, other than there was widespread power disruption caused by the gale bringing down pylons and poles.
