A knife edge

There are only 54 miles or so between Aonach Mor (next to Ben Nevis) and Cairngorm, but the temperature contrast between the too this morning as the warm air tries to push in from the west is quite stark. The temperature at 09 UTC on Aonach Mor is +2°C at the moment whilst on Cairngorm, still in the cold air, it’s close to -7°C. The T+06 forecast NWP frame for the 850 hPa height (~5000 feet) illustrates temperatures at that kind of height across the northeast of the country this morning at 06 UTC. The warm sector that contain the mild air is forecast to shrink as the frontal system occludes from the north, how fast it does that will determine how much and if any snow will fall later today and tonight.
