If the weather’s crap in the south then it’s crap everywhere

As the heatwave slowly unravels into a hot and steamy breakdown from mid-week onwards across southern areas, a bit of a north-south split looks likely to develop with an anticyclonic ridge toppling down across the the north of Scotland during Friday and Saturday. There could even be the outside chance of a touch of frost like we saw last month if skies remain clear across Sutherland. I hate that north-south cliche that I think was coined by Michael Fish but what the hell.

For a southeast centric Anglophiles view of what the weather has in store for this weekend, look no further than the bullet point headlines from Chris Fawkes on the BBC. Unfortunately during the afternoon his taped forecast from 1.30 PM got more and more out of synch with reality as the afternoon wore on as the thunderstorm developed and tracked north across the Cairngorms. As you can see Chris can’t or should that be won’t see any north-south split.
