A quick look at today’s winds so far

It’s been a windy January day across much of IONA. So much so that the UKMO issued a yellow warning for strong wind on Wednesday which still has six hours to run, but already there have been gusts outwith the area of the warning, and again the east coast of Aberdeenshire has provided them, with gusts of 58mph at Aboyne and 63 mph at Inverbervie. The Capel Curig wind tunnel was always a sure fire bet and has come up trumps with gusts as high as 69 mph, even though its at 216 metres AMSL. But because they shrunk the area too much when they updated the warning on Thursday to exclude most areas outside Snowdonia, they missed gusts of 61 mph at Aberdaron.
