Antarctic Sea Ice : 2019-20

I think we can safely say that the season minimum in the Antarctic has now been passed on the 19th of February, a couple of days earlier than average, with a minimum sea ice extent of 2.656 million square kilometres in the SII data that I download from the NSIDC. That made it the highest minimum since the 2014-15 season, and over 200,000 square kilometre higher than last years minimum.

Here is the current state of play today, the 5th of March 2020, as sea ice extent gradually increases again down in the land of the penguins.
