Anticyclonic easterly sits waiting in the wings for Christmas

It seems that every year, I along with a lot of others do the same thing, and that is looking for the first hint of snow and an impending cold snap. Each year we scan the latest 14 day forecast from the likes of the American GFS model for any indication that it might happen, and almost without exception if they promise it might we are bitterly disappointed. It’s not the first time that the GFS model has hinted at an impending easterly this autumn, this time it’s produced a classic anticyclonic easterly for the start of winter on the 22nd of December. Will it happen? Highly unlikely, but at least we can dream it might.
