Arctic Sea Ice stages late fight back

Arctic sea ice has staged something of a late fight back from the dire position it was in just two weeks ago on the 24th of February. The latest extent of 14.753 million square kilometres puts it seventh lowest in the series for the 10th of March at 95.2% of the LTA for that day. It’s lower that at the same time last year by 0.272 million square kilometre but much higher than the 2016-17 season the lowest maxima in the 43 year long satellite record. The mean maxima occurs on average on the 9th of March so the 14.783 million square kilometers on the 4th of March may well be the maximum for this season and would make it the seventh lowest on record.
