Big drops in temperature

I am indebted to Tomasz Schafernaker for this story about large falls in temperatures, presumably in the wake of a cold front coming up from the south, in the states of Victoria and New South Wales in Australia over this last weekend. Unfortunately the Australians don’t bother reporting temperature extremes (or rainfall totals, weather, visibility or gusts) in their AWS SYNOP reports, so I’ve had to pluck the 03 UTC reported temperatures for the 4th and 5th of January to generate this chart. The largest fall in temperature that I could see using this method was 26.6°C at Nerriga.
