December turns mobile and cyclonic

The MSLP anomalies for the first two weeks of the December just don’t capture how anticyclonic the start of the month was before it quickly turned cyclonic and mobile by the end of the first week. The latest charts show mean sea level pressure anomalies were much higher than average (+10.9 hPa) over the Azores, whilst in the Norwegian Sea they were much lower (-19.2 hPa), producing a squeeze in the W’SW flow across the central Atlantic and resulting in three very wet days in western Scotland. Gone are the positive anomalies that have been so common a feature since May of this year over Greenland.
