Dry spell? What dry spell?

With three weeks gone in June, and as we are enter into summer proper, the recent dry spell of spring 2020 seems to have ended quite abruptly in the majority of places across IONA with thunderstorms and heavy rain in the last week. It ended as most dry spells do quite soggily, with a few bangs and crashes in places, to be consigned to the climatological rubbish heap of embryonic spells of dry, wet, hot, cold, snowy that never quite made it, and which we have long since forgotten about down through the years. The far southeast and the far northwest seem to have escaped the worst of it so far this June.
