It seems that the equinoctial gales have decided to come a month early across IONA this year. No sooner than we’ve seen the back of storm Ellen another low is set to intensify and zoom across the country from the west. No doubt someone will put this down to it being a remnant of some tropical cyclone or other. The GFS model has a very tight gradient around the centre across northwest Ireland by 12 UTC next Tuesday and is supported by the ECMWF model. I wonder if a cyclonic end to August is a precursor to an early autumn?
