Extent of haar proves testing time for NWP models

The various NWP models are having a torrid time in forecasting the extent of the haar in recent mornings. Whatever model the BBC and Meteogroup had plumped for yesterday was dreadful, and again this morning it’s underestimated the inland penetration of the low stratus, much as the UKMO has done. Thankfully the Moray Firth didn’t fill up with stuff for the fourth consecutive night, although there was some beautiful tenuous shallow fog filling the Strath at 3.30 am with a Blackbird singing is heart out at the top our telegraph pole before sunrise.
