Feb 2021 – DIY Global temperatures

365 day moving average

Global temperatures in my DIY temperature series I construct from six hourly reanalysis .995 sigma air temperature data from NOAA continue the fall that began in early 2020. In fact I estimate the global temperature at the moment to be around 9.86°C, which is now back to the levels that it was in 2015 before the recent hiatus and twin peak surge in temperatures began. This cooling of almost 0.15°C since last year began before the current La Nina commenced but it must have contributed to the steepening of the fall. I am in no way a global warming denier – all I’ve done here is just add up a lot of rather crude 2.5 x 2.5 grid point data to produce a daily global mean from the six hourly data. Anyway I make February 2021 to be the eighteenth warmest February on record with a mean of 8.7°C which was 0.06°C above the 1981-2010 LTA and the coldest February since the one in 2014.

  1. I’m surprised I didn’t get a comment about this – I’m obviously not appealing to the right kind of people these days…
