Higher than average pressure during November 2020

The band of higher than average pressure during November 2020 that stretched from the central Atlantic (+9 hPa) into central Europe (+8 hPa) explained the very mild November temperatures across northwest Europe. Pressure remained close to or below average north of latitude 60° north which tightened the W’SW flow across the Atlantic south of it and into Scandinavia. Despite this mean pressure for the month as a whole in the LWT area is almost 3 hPa lower than it was in 1871.
