Highland hotspots

It could be that once again the warmest place in IONA was across the Highlands of Scotland with the AWS at Aviemore reporting 23.2°C at 14 UTC this afternoon. Today’s temperatures in my opinion are all down to strong insolation and have little to do with any warm wind air blowing off the continent or any remarkable foehn effect. In the Strath it’s been a tussle, but we have seen temperatures of 21°C this afternoon in a moderate easterly wind blowing up the cold Cromarty Firth. The Moray Firth and certainly the Dornoch Firth are still full of stratus – the temperature at Tain by comparison was only 10.7°C.
