I know that I should try and stop it, but I just can’t help it when one of today’s weather presenters comes out with some of the twaddle they do. Watch out for Monday as “it’s going to feel quite bitter across the country”, that’s according to Chris Fawkes on the 3:58 PM weather on the BBC News channel . I didn’t have to look too hard to find a forecast from the past of a BBC weather forecasts to illustrate my point. It’s a forecast from January 1979 preserved on YouTube by the great Jack Scott, who if you can remember him had such a nice way of presenting the forecast even in the days of magnetic symbols, he even threw in a visible satellite image from a SATFAX machine at one point. I digress. Getting back to the point of this post and that’s simply this – it’s not going to be anywhere close to bitter even if you do factor in the wind speed on Monday. It must be global warming because those temperatures for Monday afternoon look very close to normal for early December to me. Even the temperatures in Jack Scott’s chart are quite tame if you take a look at this post to see a more fitting use of the word bitter from December 1981.
