It’s now official – we’re all doomed!

As I speculated both in my earlier post today and yesterday the Met Office have now notched up their warning for heavy snow on Friday for the Highlands to Amber. The UKMO model must be slower than the GFS model which suggests it may start by 18 UTC on Thursday or even earlier. If it does that would be the fourth Thursday since Christmas that we’ve seen snow locally. The warning itself is valid for 42 hours (until 18 UTC on Saturday) which is not bad going for an amber warning, so they are taking the possibility of severe disruption to transport very seriously. Having said that you would have thought that 18 hours or more of moderate or heavy snow would add up to a wee bit more than the 10 to 15 cm they’re expecting on low ground, but I suppose beggars can’t be choosers and we’ll take what we get. As I suggested yesterday all that we need now is a red warning for snow on Friday to put the cherry on the top of the warnings map.
