Large range in 12 UTC anomalies

One of the largest ranges in temperatures I’ve seen for a while, or maybe ever at 12 UTC today. Anomalies ranged from over +11°C above the long-term average in Kent and Sussex, to almost -3°C below average just behind the cold front in Northern Scotland. There’s no doubt that there is a lot of cold air pooling up just behind that front for some reason, as I noted in an earlier blog as it passed through Altnaharra. This thermograph from Lossiemouth shows just how it can drop the temperatures by as much as 5°C inside an hour.
