Lee waves

Rather a cloudy, even an overcast day across most of the country, apart that is from the northeast of Aberdeenshire (again) today. Despite all the cloud there are some interesting lee wave effects visible in any breaks in the lower cloud today across the northwest, and which are putting in this afternoons visible satellite imagery, but it’s only when you animate the imagery do the lee waves really stand out. There is one particularly solid block of a lee wave at the moment just off Cape Wrath in Sutherland, which I imagine would be similar to the effect of placing a mile high brick wall aligned SSE NNW against the southwesterly flow would produce. Unfortunately I can’t make the animations too long because of the large file size that would be required.
