Lerwick sunniest place in the last week

Lerwick in the Shetland received 26.6 hours of sunshine in the last week (23 – 29 January) and was the sunniest spot in IONA, beating both Cork and the sunny island of Jersey. It’s been very cold and sunny, with scattered snow showers, but also quite calm at times allowing Baltasound to record a minimum of -8.3°C. Sea ice may be on the decline in the Arctic, but thanks to the these calm cold calm conditions it was on the increase at Voe.
