March coming in like a lamb

It looks like things are starting to settle down at long last, at least for a few days anyway across IONA. High pressure is forecast to build during the coming week, and by the weekend a large anticyclone will become established across southern parts. It looks likely that March will be coming in as a lamb rather than a lion this year, as the anticyclonic spell is forecast to last right through into the beginning of March according to the ECMWF model. Looking at the LWT data for March, cyclonicity does seem to peak both at the beginning and end of the month, but does dip slightly and become more anticyclonic mid month, which might be the reason behind that old bit of weather lore.
