October 2020 – very wet, but was it the wettest?

This is rather an experimental offering on my part of a chart showing the percentage difference from the 1981-2010 LTA of rainfall across the UK for October 2020. I’m publishing it ahead of the official data just to see how close I got with the anomalies that I calculated using SYNOP reports which I download from Ogimet. Hopefully they should be accurate enough if I’ve done my programming correctly. It will also be intersting to see when they release this data to see if the gridded total for the whole of the UK exceeded that of October 1903 and indeed was the wettest since 1862, if it wasn’t for the UK, it certainly will be for some of its regions and here I’m thinking particularly of the southeast of England thanks to the wet start to October.
