The battle for warmest year globally – will 2016 be finally beaten?

The race for warmest year globally is going to be a very close run thing, and there’s no doubt that the annual global temperature for 2020 will be within a smidgeon of 2016 when the December 2020 anomalies are eventually announced in early 2021. At the moment 2016 is very slightly ahead of 2020 in the HadCRUT4 temperature series, but in the GISTemp series 2020 is just slightly ahead of 2016. Monthly global anomalies have been steadily falling since the spring of 2020, so my money is still on 2016 keeping the title of the warmest year on record, much to the chagrin of the majority of the world’s ‘climate’ scientists.
