Recent changes in North Atlantic SST

At a quick glance between the latest SST and last years there seems to be more warm water south of 40° north and in the German Bight and more cold water north of 70° north than there was in early December 2018. In the latest chart NCOF seem to be using higher resolution data than they were in last years chart, resulting in more confused contouring than usual. It would be nice to see a colour contoured comparison chart, but the only way that I can see that working would be by examining each pixel in the images and doing a look-up on the colour that you found, and at the same time ignoring all the black SST isotherms, which would be very fiddly.
