Snow catches Met Office on the hop

A trough embedded in the strong to gale force westerly airstream brought a short spell of moderate to heavy snow across parts of the Midlands this afternoon and caught the Met Office on the hop forcing them to issue this hurried yellow warning for snow at 1402 UTC. I see on the 15 UTC plotted chart Watnall (close to Nottingham) where reporting 4 cm of snow. Further north Aviemore were reporting 9 cm at the same time. Here in Ross-shire there has been a continual stream of light snow showers throughout the day, which until the last hour have not settled.
