So this was a cold front

The Met Office reckon that this rather persistent band of stratocumulus base ~4,000 feet and aligned NW-SE across Scotland was a cold front undergoing frontolysis – which is not going to say that it only appeared for the first time in the 06 UTC analysis. The observations, especially the dew points across northern Scotland today don’t really support that idea, but it did mean that today has been rather cloudy, but thankfully the cloud is now breaking now the front has gone through!
