Spare a though for those in the far north

Lerwick

Spare a though for those who live in the far north, and by that I mean the northern Isles. They’ve seen a severe spell of weather in the last 36 hours with a combination of very low temperatures, gales and heavy hail and snow showers. Unfortunately the charts from wxchart.com don’t cover the northern Isles too well so this is the best I can manage.

The UKMO have issued a yellow wind warning for Shetland, for a feature almost identical to the one that occurred yesterday that brushes close by the Islands to the east at lunchtime today. For once the Shetland Islands seem to be more than just an afterthought to the UKMO, I wonder how long it will last?

    1. The coverage of what is a very unusual cold spell in the north by the BBC both in London and Glasgow has been very poor.
Although to be fair the snow hasn’t caused the disruptions it could have done if this cold spell had occurred earlier in the year and not in April.
Still it can’t have been great for any sheep out on the hills this week.

    2. And they’ve done it in the latest warning! It obviously hasn’t registered with them that Stornoway has 3 cm of snow lying.

But if temps had been 0.5°C above average, they’d have put out headlines like ‘Stornoway Swelters in Freak Heatwave’

The BBC are now so bad, that when they give a time check, you should look on the computer to see if it’s true !!
