Storm Evert on Wednesday?

The ECMWF and GFS models seem to have come back into a broad agreement that although this coming Wednesday will a very windy day, the strongest of the winds will be an hour or so either side of midnight on Thursday, as the bent back occlusion or secondary low like feature tightens the W’SWl’y gradient across Ireland and the northwest of England and Wales as it moves bodily eastward. The maximum gust in the forecast in the ECMWF model for midnight is 81 knots, so I should imagine that the UKMO will spring into action on Monday morning at the latest with this one, which could well end up being named storm Evert.

I’ve never met or even heard of any one with the forname Evert, but I am sure there was female tennis player with the surname Evert in the 1970’s. After a closer look on the Internet I find that Evert is a Dutch Christian name, and from what I read in the dictionary I can’t see it ever catching on here.

  1. Storm Evert is named after the legendary speed skater Evert van Benthem

    1. I didn’t realise that anyone had named it.
The Dutch didn’t seem to be interested in doing it and it’s a bit late in the day to do it now I would have thought.
