The answers global heating – now what’s the question?

Even before the cold wave across Texas had even finished the climate attributionists have already laid the finger of blame on Arctic heating as the likely cause of it. It seems that whatever extreme weather event occurs on the planet these days, be it too wet or dry, cold or hot, it’s all the fault of global heating. It does make you wonder if reports like this in the Guardian are pre-written and just waiting for the appropriate severe spell of cold weather to come along, after all this report from Judah Cohen was published last year. All that Oliver Milman would have to do then would be to adjust the time and place and bingo! Unlike Donald Trump who came up with this remarkably astute observation about it right of the cuff:

“Wouldn’t be bad to have a little of that good old fashioned Global Warming right now!”

  1. It is worrying when it seems every event is automatically linked to GW and I’m sure doesn’t help the cause of convincing people that GW is real and a danger to the planet. Scientists need to at least be seen to be a bit more rigorous in their investigations and decision on causes before jumping on the GW bandwagon!

    1. You are absolutely correct,
      climate attributionists
      – how climate pseudoscience is taking scientists away from reality. well worth 9mins; Note – Richard Feynman @ 55secs

  2. I can’t see the problem tbh, I think the article explains the reasoning pretty well. Isn’t the reality we seem to see these occasional extreme cold spells in the Northern hemisphere winter but the trend of global temperature is clearly a strong warming one, in the Northern Hemisphere especially.

    1. I agree with you that there is a warming trend going on across the world, but this cold spell in the midwest is not the result of Arctic heating per se in my opinion, but just the result of the natural variability of the weather. The polar vortex hasn’t recently just become detached from the North Pole and started to wander, and I’m quite sure that cold troughs like this happen most winters to some extent across what is a vast continent. But it seems to me that any severe weather event that occurs is pounced upon by climate scientists to prove a point these days, and just another headline in what looks like a brainwashing campaign to convince the doubters. This approach puts my back up as it must do millions of others who fully concede that the globe is warming.

Dammed if they do, dammed if they don’t…I really do think the idea most of the world’s meteorologists and atmosphere scientists are party to a mass campaign of brainwashing isn’t credible.

        1. It’s a bit like the story by Hans Christian Andersen about a vain Emperor who gets exposed before his subjects for wearing no clothes – until the little boy speaks up everyone goes along with the pretense in fear of being labelled stupid. Climate scientists just will not give up in their quest to link any extreme weather event to AGW and until everyone thinks like they do.

    2. Yes we have a mild modern warming since the end of ‘The Little Ice Age’ ~1850 but we are cooler than the Medieval, Roman, Minoan Periods & considerably cooler than 15,000 yrs ago.
Study paleo-climatology & botany, even archaeology shows it.
