The Capel Curig wind tunnel

The Met Office are not taking any chances after getting caught out on two separate occasions in the last week with gusts to 68 and 70 mph at Capel Curig. They’ve included the whole of Anglesey and Snowdonia in their yellow wind warning for Friday night. Capel Curig does sit in a deep sided valley and is susceptible to very strong southwesterly winds that funnel down it. What makes it worse is that the station is also fairly high at 216 metres, so it’s probably classified as a low level rather than a high level station, and as such is included in the warning verification process. I am guessing here, but they’ve probably lost marks on the last two strong wind warnings they’ve issued because of it.
