They thought it was all over…

The SSW event that occurred just after the New Year has been somewhat underwhelming in reinvigorating the Christmas cold spell across IONA, but there are some signs that it might finally be starting to show it’s hand in the NWP models out at T+240, of course at this range we are deep into the realm of science fiction land. The Christmas cold spell has still how managed to hang on in the northeast of the country defying all the odds to keep the less cold Atlantic from totally taking over. The rain has finally turned to continuous moderate snow it the strath since 12 UTC, and is already putting down a new covering of snow to replace the one that it washed away during the night! Full marks to the UKMO for the snow warnings and their accurate forecast.
