Venice floods

It’s easy to see how the exceptionally high tide in Venice yesterday were exacerbated by low pressure in the Adriatic and a moderate to fresh easterly wind blowing across the lagoon. The plot grid below is from the Lido in Venice which you don’t usually get observations from but they seem to have miraculously appeared from nowhere for yesterday. There must have been some kind of warning because I just can’t believe they can’t model these events quite accurately in the 21st century. There’s obviously very little they can do but just let Venice flood until the barrage they’re in the process of building is complete whenever that is. I don’t believe that this exceptional high tide has been attributed to AGW so far, but it probably will be.
