We’re all doomed!

There is not much doubt from the midnight run of the GFS model that northern Scotland is set to be clobbered from late afternoon on Thursday by as much as 24 hours of heavy snow. That combined with strong winds that are already circulating around the low across northwest Ireland could make it a very disruptive event indeed, with considerable drifting and blizzard like conditions later that evening and overnight. If the UKMO model in anyway resembles this then I would expect the UKMO to bring forward their weekend warning that starts on midnight Friday and increase the level to at least amber. It’s still very much knife edge rain/snow event on low ground and it will be intersting to see just how they handle the warnings later this morning.
