Wet start to January in west

A wet start to January 2020 in western areas of IONA. A remarkable contrast between a very wet Tulloch Bridge (170.4 mm) and a remarkably dry Aberdeenshire (3.4 mm) in the shelter of the Grampian mountains in Scotland. The distance between the two is just over 100 km and is an excellent example of how effective a rain shadow can be. Actual totals maybe a little higher than these because I have only received 91% of observations for many of the stations so far this month.
