Winter 2020 in Europe – the mildest on record?

One of the mildest winters, if not the mildest winter on record continues across the whole of Europe. It’s has been particularly mild across eastern Europe, Scandinavia and western Russia, despite a recent cold wave, with mean anomalies of between 4°C and 9°C above the 1961-1990 LTA. Everytime I run an analysis I feel that I have made a programming error and have to check and reassure myself that the anomalies I’ve calculated for places like here in Helsinki are right. If I am correct there’s not been a single day this winter in Helsinki when the mean temperature has been below average.

None of this news is making the headlines, which I find quite amazing. I would have expected the AGW believers to have been jumping up and down about this one. Where is Greta Thunberg when you need her? I did find someone else who seems to have noticed what’s going on at the Washington Post of all places in a very interesting article. Here’s just the top bit of it.
