Yet another mild winter

As winter 2019-20 draws to an end, it looks like it will end up being the ninth mildest since 1772 in the central England series. This meteorological winter has been very mild and is currently over 2°C above the 1961-90 LTA, having said that it’s still overshadowed by the exceptionally mild winters of 2015-16, 2006-07, and 2013-14 in recent years, and it seems like a long time since we have experienced a cold winter. Now that I live even further outside the triangle of stations that combine to make up the temperatures in the CET series, I realise that they don’t paint the complete picture of temperatures across the whole country as once I may have thought.
