13 Jan 2021 – remarkable anomalies

These are charts of air temperature and anomalies for 12 UTC today across IONA. The remarkable anomalies range from a positively balmy +5.2°C at Shobdon, to an icy -5.9°C at Altnaharra. Temperatures over the mountains of Scotland are also notable, compare the +4°C anomaly on Aonach Mor in the warm sector with the -2.5°C anomaly on the summit of Cairngorm. Don’t let Sarah Keith Lucas or Susan Powell dare say it’s been rather chilly in the northeast today, it’s been bloody cold, and only in the last hour as the temperature locally in the strath risen above zero.
