16-17 June 2021 – Overnight thunderstorms

A large thunderstorm tracked N’NE across Sussex and Kent into the North Sea with 46 mm of rain at Manston. Quite a sharp back edge to the rain from it running from the Isle of Wight to north Norfolk. Highest accumulations in mid Channel of 70-80 mm if these estimates of mine are anything like. Whatever happened to the Greenwich light vessel when you needed it? And why didn’t they stick a rain gauge on it? No observations from there since 16 UTC yesterday, so it could be that the light vessels AWS anemometer took a direct hit by lightning from this particular thunderstorm
