16 Mar 2020 – anomalies at 12 UTC

Hard to believe the very mild temperatures this lunchtime across IONA in the wake of today’s cold front. The highest anomalies are occurring in places with high ground to their northwest which provides some shelter from the fresh to strong northwesterly flow, and also in part because we are now largely under the influence of an intensifying anticyclone to the southwest of Ireland with a central pressure of 1035 hPa or higher. Temperatures at Pershore are already close to 16°C, but the highest anomaly at 12 UTC is the +7.8°C from Eskdalemuir in the southern uplands.
