The Norwegians seemed to a have picked a perfect day to go on strike with their SYNOP observations going AWOL, so this analysis is in portrait format. The cold air has certainly started to dig in across the north of Sutherland and Caithness now, and we have just had our first moderate snow shower here in the Strath (must be that second cold front 😉 ), although temperatures are still a degree or so above freezing. A lot of northerly winds coming down from the Arctic when in reality their northwesterly at least at the moment. It’s been a few years since I’ve seen it snow in April, which makes up for the fact that we’ve never seen any at least on low ground since the second week of February. Talk of snow in April always makes me think of the lyrics in the Johnny Mathis song The twelfth of never for some reason, I’ll have to ask Alexa to remind me to get up at 7 am to make sure that I’m up early enough to catch it before it all melts!
