Antarctic sea ice extent holding on too

In the Antarctic at the moment, sea ice extents are not quite as dire as they were at the same time last year. On the 27th of December they were 4th lowest for that date, but almost a million square kilometres up on the same time last year. Having said that sea ice extents are almost 14% lower than the LTA as you can see from this next graphic with a massive gap in the Weddell sea and large hole in the Ross sea.
