I don’t think I’ve seen a frostier month even in winter than we’ve seen this April across the northeast of Scotland. Spring has only really started in the last few weeks and we still have daffodils out in the garden. Hopefully the sunshine that we see this week will help us catch up a bit. After looking at the gridded data for April in Northern Scotland I see the number of air frosts is 7.6 which is +0.3 of a day above average. I find that hard to believe looking at the number of frosts reported by the climate stations, all that I can assume is that the value is skewed by temperatures from the Western and Northern Isles, but that’s the big disadvantages of using gridded datasets and the fact that you can end up with a happy medium.
