Fata Morgana – looking north from Burghead

A friend of mine took this image today whilst looking north from Burghead harbour across the Moray Firth towards what looks like the cliffs around Helmsdale in Sutherland, although I could be wrong. It looks like it may be an example of a mirage like optical illusion known as Fata Morgana which I know has been reported across the Moray Firth before. Although it’s commonly seen in polar regions, it can occasionally be seen in warmer climes, if there’s a strong surface temperature inversion present.
