February temperature jump was incredible, says climate expert

There is no doubt that the last two weeks of February 2019 were extremely mild, but there were in no way exceptional for a winter month in the Central England series. Take for example December 2015 in the CET series which as far as I remember the climate change brigade seem to have missed completely as proof of AGW.

The month of December 2015 in Central England was just a whopping 5°C above average, February 2019 in comparison was just shy of 3°C above the 1961-1990 long-term average. December 2015 has the highest anomaly of any month in the entire CET series since 1659 as the following bar chart shows.

Perhaps Geert Jan van Oldenborgh should check the Central England records more closely in future. I did contact Geert to remind him of the exceptional month of December 2015. Here is his reply to my email and a rather enigmatic graph that he sent me looking at the CET of December 2015.

I don’t for one minute believe that February 2019 was more exceptional than December 2015 despite his analysis. I asked him to report back to me when he got back to his laptop to see what he found. Four months later I’ve still had no reply which to me speaks volumes, make a headline and move on.
