Heatwaves and today’s thunderstorms

Tomasz Schafernaker has a theory that today’s thunderstorms are only occurring where there hasn’t been a heatwave so far, which just goes to show what he knows about the definition for heatwave definition, and the fact that Plymouth are into day four of their own heatwave. You have to forgive him because his interest begins to wane once his focus extends beyond the M25, on his performance today on the BBC, I can easily see why the Met Office dispensed of his services in 2010. As far as today’s thunderstorms go they tracked N’NW through Devon in the morning before turning more to the right across Wales during the afternoon. Some big rainfall totals >80 mm from the western edge of Dartmoor.
